Memorial Day is a special occasion to honor and celebrate the lives of those who perished while fighting for the freedom of the United States of America. Without these brave men and women, people of this great nation might never have been able to enjoy the rights that they have today.

Surely, the entire country is indebted to their services and they can never be forgotten. However, this holiday has slowly become more about a day off from work. And it’s often considered as an unofficial start of the summer season. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun! You can go on road trips or have barbecue parties in your backyard. This movie is about the first all-African American regiment. Glory was released in 1989. The movie starred Denzel Washington whose performance in the flick earned him an Academy Award for, ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role.’ It also features names like Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick.

#2. Saving Private Ryan

This is an epic war film that might move you to tears. It is widely considered as one of the greatest movies of all time and has won a whopping eleven Academy Awards. This movie features stellar performances by notable actors such as Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and Edward Burns. It was directed by Steven Spielberg who is also known for directing hits like Jaws, Jurassic Park, Lincoln, and Schindler’s List.

#3. Top Gun

This is the film that launched Tom Cruise’s career into the stratosphere and made him the ultimate action star he is today. Directed by Tony Scott, this film was released in 1986. The movie circles around Maverick (Tom Cruise) who is an extremely skilled fighter pilot. He goes to the Naval flight school to sharpen his skills but his attitude is what gets him into trouble with other pilots and instructors. However, during his journey, he would learn a lot about life. A sequel of this movie entitled, Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to hit the theatres in the summer of 2021.

#4. Act of Valor

A film by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, Act of Valor should be on your list of movies to watch this Memorial Day. This movie tells the tale of the Bandito Platoon who after finding out that there is a deadly plot being planned against the United States, rushes to stop the terrorists. This flick is not based on a true story. However, it does feature Navy SEALs which is what makes this film so special.
